거창 출신의 피아니스트 유청빈은 어린 시절 고전음악의 선율과 화성에 깊이 매료되어 8세에 피아노를 배우기 시작하였다. 이후 지역 콩쿠르에서 두각을 나타내기 시작하여 각종 국내 콩쿠르에서 우승하는 성과를 거두었다. 16세가 되던 2008년, 진주 개천예술제 피아노 부문에서 우승하며 창원 오케스트라와 그리그 피아노 협주곡을 협연하며 데뷔 무대를 가졌다.

2010년에는 CBS 전국 음악콩쿠르 피아노 부문 최우수상을 받았으며 CBS 방송 갈라 콘서트에서 연주하였다. 이듬해인 2011년 수리 음악 콩쿠르 피아노 부문 우승을 차지하며 군포교향악단과 차이코프스키 피아노 협주곡 1번을 협연하였다. 이후 2017년 T&B International Artist Competition 피아노 부문에서 우승하고 T&B 엔터테인먼트를 통해 온라인 앨범을 발매하였다. 2019년에는 런던 왕립음악원에서 베토벤 소나타의 뛰어난 연주로 Lilian Davies Prize(Royal Academy of Music)를 수상하였다. 그 외에도 코리아헤럴드 콩쿠르 2위, 한세대·국민일보 콩쿠르 3위, 서울예술종합학교 음악콩쿠르 2위, 춘천시 음악 콩쿠르 피아노 부문 최우수상 등 다수의 수상을 통해 실력을 인정받았다.

학업 면에서는 2009년 서울예고 재학 중 임미정 교수를 사사하였으며, 2012년 서울대학교 기악과 피아노 전공으로 입학하여 주희성 교수의 지도 아래 학사 학위를 취득하였다. 2017년 9월부터는 Christopher Elton 교수와 Joanna MacGregor 교수의 지도하에 전액 장학생으로 런던 왕립음악원(Royal Academy of Music)에서 석사 학위를 우수한 성적(Distinction)으로 취득하였다. 이어 2022년 한세대학교 박사 과정에 입학하여 알렉산드르 스크랴빈(A. Scriabin)의 전기, 후기 피아노 소나타에 관한 연구로 논문우수상을 수상하며 졸업하였다. 학업 중 Pascal Devoyon, Steven Osborne, Stefan Arnold, Yoshikazu Nagai, Richard Egarr, James Giles, Tatiana Sarkissova, Yevgeny Sudbin, Colin Stone 등 세계적인 피아니스트들의 마스터 클래스에 참여하며 음악적 저변을 넓혔다.

연주자로서 창원관현악단, 군포교향악단, 충주교향악단, CM 심포니 오케스트라, 거창윈드오케스트라 등과 협연하였으며 Amalfi Coast Festival, 서울대학교 피아노 페스티벌, 한세대학교 페스티벌 등에 참여하여 연주하였다. 또한 전주 비바체 현악 페스티벌 전속 반주자 초청, PLZ 페스티벌 초청 연주 및 오르페오 TV 채널 출연 등 활발한 행보를 이어왔다. 주영한국문화원 및 주영대사관 콘서트 시리즈 초청 연주를 비롯해 거창문화센터 개관 음악회 협연, 거창윈드오케스트라 창단 10주년 연주회 협연, 대구음악제 창작현대음악회 초청 연주를 가졌으며 Saint James Piccadilly, Charlton House, 거창콘서트하우스인, 거창문화센터, 대구 뮤직랜드, 서울대학교 콘서트홀, 한세대학교 콘서트홀, MS 아트홀 등 유수의 무대에서 공연하였다.

아울러 2016년부터 한국인 피아니스트 7인으로 구성된 앙상블 '피아노 블러바드'의 멤버로 활동하며 클래식 음악의 대중화에 기여했다. 이 팀은 친숙한 클래식 작품을 통해 대중에게 다가가는 것을 목표로 했으며, 롯데백화점 공연 및 2016년 금호연세아트홀 매진 리사이틀을 성공적으로 마쳤다. 당시 연주한 쇼팽 에튀드 '흑건' 영상은 온라인에서 10만 뷰 이상의 조회수를 기록하며 큰 화제를 모았다. 현재 ‘한국 피아노 연주와 교수법 학회’ 회원으로 활동 중이며, 서울예술고등학교에 출강하며 후학 양성에도 힘쓰고 있다.

Born in Geochang, South Korea, pianist Cheongbin Yu began his musical journey at the age of eight, drawn to the melodies and harmonies of classical music. His early talent was quickly recognized as he swept numerous national competitions. In 2008, at the age of 16, he won the Piano Division at the Gaecheon Arts Festival, marking his official debut with a performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto alongside the Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra.

Cheongbin’s competitive success continued with a Grand Prize at the CBS National Music Competition in 2010, followed by a performance at the CBS Gala Concert. In 2011, he won the Suri Music Competition and performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Gunpo Philharmonic Orchestra. His international accolades include the prestigious Lilian Davies Prize at the Royal Academy of Music in London (2019) for his exceptional interpretation of Beethoven’s sonatas. He also holds top prizes from the T&B International Artist Competition, the Korea Herald Competition, and the Kookmin Daily & Hansei University Competition, among others.

His academic background is as distinguished as his performance career. After studying under Professor Mi-Jung Im at Seoul Arts High School, he earned his Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University under the tutelage of Professor Hee-Sung Joo. Ryu then moved to London to attend the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) as a full scholarship recipient, where he obtained his Master’s degree with Distinction, studying under Professors Christopher Elton and Joanna MacGregor. Most recently, he completed his Doctoral degree (DMA) at Hansei University, where his research on Alexander Scriabin’s early and late piano sonatas earned him the Outstanding Dissertation Award. Throughout his studies, he has refined his artistry in masterclasses with world-renowned pianists such as Pascal Devoyon, Steven Osborne, and Yevgeny Sudbin.

As a soloist, Cheongbin has performed with the Changwon, Gunpo, Chungju, and CM Symphony Orchestras. His recital career has taken him to prestigious venues across Korea and Europe, including Saint James’s Piccadilly, Charlton House, the Korean Cultural Centre UK, and the Seoul National University Concert Hall. He has been a featured artist at the Amalfi Coast Festival, the PLZ Festival, and has appeared on the Orfeo TV channel.

Beyond his solo work, Cheongbin has been a member of the piano ensemble 'Piano Boulevard' since 2016, a group of seven Korean pianists dedicated to popularizing classical music. Their sold-out recital at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei and his viral performance of Chopin’s 'Black Keys' Etude—which garnered over 100,000 views—highlight his ability to engage with modern audiences. Currently, he is a member of the Korean Society of Piano Performance and Pedagogy and shares his expertise with the next generation of musicians as a faculty member at Seoul Arts High School.
